This program uses sedation (conscious sedation) anesthesia to perform surgery while the patient is in a sleep-like state. Patients feel less anxious about the procedure, while the medical team closely monitors their condition and can take immediate action if necessary.
Sedation anesthesia reduces anxiety and tension during surgery while minimizing pain. This method allows the patient to remain conscious but significantly alleviates pain in the surgical area, ensuring a comfortable treatment experience.

I graduated from Seoul National University College of Dentistry and completed specialized training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Seoul National University Dental Hospital. During this journey, I discovered my true calling in surgeries related to the mouth and face. Working over 16 hours a day, 365 days a year, never felt exhausting because this career brought me immense joy. I am always grateful to have a job that aligns with what I love and excel at. One of the most fulfilling moments is when I treat patients who have wandered through many hospitals without success. Witnessing their relief and happiness as their conditions improve after treatment energizes me to work even harder. . I particularly enjoy treating challenging cases and have a passion for research and development. Initially, I believed I should work in a university hospital, but new ambitions emerged. Korea has many talented doctors, and I wanted to bring them together to establish a hospital that attracts not only domestic but also international patients, contributing to our nation’s reputation. Seoul of Dental Hospital was built on this vision, aiming to be a trusted partner for healthy and beautiful smiles, offering the most advanced technology and medical expertise to patients worldwide.
First and foremost, oral and maxillofacial surgery is one of the most comprehensive fields in dentistry, encompassing a wide range of cases. This diversity and complexity greatly appealed to me. My initial impression of the field was also shaped by its perceived prestige. In the hospital, I often witnessed specialists from other disciplines seeking the assistance of oral and maxillofacial surgeons when complex issues arose during treatment. This made me realize that oral and maxillofacial surgery holds a particularly critical and respected position within dentistry. Additionally, as this specialty is responsible for addressing all complications and medical emergencies in the dental field, I felt that it required a significant sense of responsibility and expertise. Oral and maxillofacial surgery is unique in that it is the only dental specialty actively involved in emergency care. I viewed this as a form of rigorous training to become a truly competent doctor capable of calmly handling critical situations. During my training, I found the task of managing inpatients with internal diseases initially challenging, but it allowed me to accumulate a wealth of knowledge and experience. Furthermore, oral and maxillofacial surgery goes beyond the oral cavity, involving surgical procedures for the entire face. For instance, large-scale operations, such as oral cancer surgeries, often require the transplantation of tissue from the arms or legs to the face. These complex procedures enhanced my understanding of systemic anatomy and refined my surgical skills. Through my experiences with major surgeries, I gained the confidence that mastering difficult procedures enables one to excel at simpler ones as well.

The belief I held as a child—that a doctor who heals the sick can make the world warmer—has never changed over time. The specialist training was by no means easy, but every time I see patients regain their health and their smiles after treatment, I am reminded of the fulfillment I feel in choosing prosthodontics. My choice of prosthodontics, in particular, carries a personal story. The heartfelt wish to make my beloved grandmother’s dentures more comfortable grew into a deep interest and affection for this field.
The gratitude patients express always becomes a warm source of energy in my practice. I remember a patient with unilateral paralysis whose wife made and brought homemade sweet rice after I completed his denture treatment. Another memory is of a cancer patient who, after receiving full-mouth prosthetic treatment, gave me a handwritten letter saying she could smile brightly at her son’s wedding photos. Moments like these remind me that my work is never just a procedure—it is about deeply connecting with my patients’ daily lives and emotions.

When I was young, my mother once told me, “I think a career working closely with metal would suit you well.” Perhaps those words stayed with me. I naturally found myself drawn more to dental school than medical school, and during clinical training, I discovered my dexterity and sense of aesthetics—traits I may have inherited from my mother, who majored in art. After graduating at the top of my class in dental school, I was drawn to the meticulous nature of prosthodontics and naturally pursued the path of a prosthodontist. Now at Seoul Of Dental Hospital, I treat each patient with the belief that a single prosthesis can transform a person’s life.
“Saving a 10-year-old’s permanent tooth” During my internship, a 10-year-old boy who had been injured in a traffic accident was rushed into the ER. His upper front permanent tooth had been knocked out, and his gums and lips were torn. Thinking, “If I can’t save this tooth, he’ll suffer for the rest of his life,” I did everything I could. The tooth was successfully replanted and healed well. A few years later, I heard that the boy, now a teenager, had come back to the hospital wanting to thank me. Although I was no longer working there, hearing that touched me deeply. “When I feel a patient’s gratitude” One elderly patient, thankful for the treatment, brought me homemade glutinous rice in a warm lunch container. Another grandmother, pleased after her treatment, even suggested I meet her granddaughter. Moments like these build up over time, strengthening my resolve to always be a good doctor.
As a prosthodontic specialist at Seoul Of Dental Hospital, Dr. Wonwoong Jang leads treatments specializing in: - Precision implant prosthetic design - Prosthetic restoration of traumatized or missing teeth - Complex re-prosthetic cases Through close collaboration with our in-house dental technicians and an integrated in-house prosthetic system, he strives to deliver the highest quality treatment outcomes. “A single tooth can change a life. Treating a patient while sharing in that transformation—that’s why I do what I do.”
